12U Homelab Rack Template

This ready-made 12U homelab rack template places a UniFi Dream Machine, a Pro 24 PoE switch, a Cat6 patch panel, a NAS, a vented shelf placeholder for a mini PC (the catalog has shelves, not mini PC SKUs), blanks, a PDU library placeholder, and a 2U UPS. What this template does and does not claim

  • Cloud sync is available for signed-in users; guest work survives a browser reload.
  • Library adds are blocked when the rack has no free U left for that device height.
  • Each saved design holds one rack.
  • The ?example= param loads once and is stripped so a reload cannot silently overwrite your work.
  • RackBuilder does not store chassis weights, does not calculate BTU or circuit amps, and does not perform depth checks.
  • The CyberPower PDU entry is a library placeholder; confirm the real SKU against your site standards.

Ask a licensed electrician or qualified installer before you size power, circuits, or mounting. Follow the manufacturer install guide for rails and fasteners. RackBuilder does not size structural hardware.

Frequently asked questions

What devices are in the 12U homelab rack template?

The layout uses a Ubiquiti UDM Pro, a USW Pro 24 PoE, a Synology RS1619xs+, a Cat6 patch panel, a cable manager, a vented shelf placeholder, blanking panels, a CyberPower PDU placeholder, and an APC Smart-UPS 1500. All IDs exist in devices.json. It is not the same placement list as the homelab-12u planner example.

How is this different from the homelab rack planner page?

The homelab rack planner page explains 12U to 24U home planning with several example sizes. This page is one static template with its own JSON (UDM Pro plus Pro PoE switch) you can open directly. Both load designs via ?example= without changing the read-only source data.

Does the shelf include a mini PC model?

No. The catalog has a generic vented shelf placeholder, not mini PC or SBC SKUs. Place your own appliance on the shelf in the real cabinet and keep the shelf row in the elevation as a reminder.
